Grade 4.8 Zinc Plated Carbon Steel Hex Long Nut, also known as coupling nut, is a threaded fastener used to connect two male threads. The most common one is the threaded rod. The outside of the fastener is usually hexagonal, so a wrench can hold it. Variants include a “reduced coupling nut”, which is used to connect two “eye coupling nuts” with threads of different sizes.
They have a viewing hole for observing the engagement amount and connecting the nut with left-hand threads. These are used to grow the rod assembly from a shorter length rod assembly. The rod is screwed into the coupling nut for a certain distance. Coupling nut dimensions are described by the Industrial Fastener Association in standard IFI-128. This is a simple completion. It can be cold drawn or hot rolled, depending on the bar stock used. There are two different thread sizes and profiles for connecting nuts called reducer nuts.
